In Search of Apollo Creed

The days of chasing chickens are over.

In the days since winning the election, Barack Obama has established www.change.gov, the first-ever Web site dedicated to providing information regarding the transition between one presidential administration and another (actually, Bush had a rudimentary version in 2000 -- Jeff). This effort is only the latest step to use technology to inform, involve and motivate his supporters, and is reminiscent of several ways Obama revolutionized the ground game in presidential politics.

Last night, for example, I was looking at a friend's iPhone and, fooling around with the various applications available for instantaneous and free download, I stumbled across an application entitled "Obama '08," which allows the iPhone owner to organize telephone contacts used to spread the word about Obama's campaign. Similarly, Obama supporters who preferred to use a laptop or desktop PC could download software which literally turned their home computer and home telephone into a campaign phone bank. For liberals interested in advancing Obama's socialist policies, gone were the days of driving to the local campaign headquarters, parking their hippie butts into a folding chair, and working the phones for six hours or more.

Barack Obama, like him or not, completely transformed the traditional approaches taken by presidential campaigns in rallying and mobilizing the vote. For the sake of comparison, I received a robo-call at my house from Rudy Giuliani on Election Day, urging me to get out and vote -- nice, but the call came at 7:50 p.m., ten minutes before polls were to close in Pennsylvania.

It dawned on me a few minutes ago that Barack Obama is like Clubber Lang, the mysterious new fighter on the scene with an inexplicable stranglehold on the media, while the Republican Party is more like Rocky Balboa -- morally and substantively superior but much slower, much more encumbered by tradition, and equally upset and motivated after the new heavyweight caused, in an embarrassingly easy victory, the demise of the stodgy old man at the heart of the party's corner.

Four years from now, the GOP will once again have to go toe-to-toe with Barack Obama. The defending champ will be ready, but unless things change between now and then, the GOP will not.

We need Apollo Creed.

At the beginning of the third installment of the Rocky franchise, Rocky Balboa was fat and happy, having successfully defended his heavyweight belt against a bunch of nobodies. He took for granted the hard work and sacrifice, the blood, bruises and sweat he originally put forth to get the belt in the first place, and was surprised by upstart Lang, who effortlessly got the better of the slower, more traditional, more distracted veteran in their first match. For the re-match, Balboa needed help, and he got that help from a longtime rival, Apollo Creed.

The days of chasing Mickey's chickens to gain speed were over. Creed--The Master of Disaster! The King of Sting! The Dancing Destroyer! The Count of Monte Fisto!--taught a reluctant Rocky the merits of balance and footwork and did so the old-fashioned way, through hard work, sacrifice, and the need to step outside the comfort zone.

It wasn't easy. Rocky couldn't move like Creed, he couldn't dance his way around the ring. In the past, he had relied solely on his power, his stubbornness and his high threshold for pain, but in order to have even a remote chance of beating Clubber Lang in the rematch, he needed more. Creed spent hours working Rocky over in the gym, jumping rope and hopping around in various ways. They ran on the beach, with Creed easily out-sprinting Balboa at first. Finally, after the musical training montage was almost over, Rocky beat Creed in the slow-motion footrace and the two shared a Barney Frank-type moment in the frothy surf.

If Barack Obama was able to be so efficient this time around, if he was able to mobilize the youth vote in such an unprecedented fashion, if he was able to foster turnout so effectively, what can we expect out of him in four years? As the incumbent, as the one wearing the heavyweight belt, he'll likely be better. His ground game will likely improve. And, unless the good guys can do the same, they won't stand a chance.

We need Apollo Creed.

We need to get younger. We need to get sleeker. We need to get faster, smoother, more efficient. We need to get quicker, smarter, more punishing, and less apt to retreat into our corner.

We need to stick to conservative principles, package those principles and sell them to the American public. It starts with the tenets of fiscal conservatism, stressing the end of big government, of higher taxes, of growth-stifling regulation. Create jobs by fostering economic growth, protect wealth by reducing taxes. Let America know that government has no business in the auto business, in our hospitals, in our homes. Talk to your kids, to your neighbors, to your co-workers, to people you meet in the supermarket. Challenge them to footraces, if necessary.

Regardless, the Ward Cleaver perception of conservatism must be replaced by concrete, practically-applicable examples of situations and institutions where conservative principles work. States and municipalities must lead the way, the private sector must do their job as well. The new media must do the job that the old media will not, and consistently report on the successes of conservatism alongside the failures of the Obama administration.

Republican Party leadership in Washington, D.C. must be gutted as well. Over the past two dozen years, we've seen that conservative republicans win elections, while moderate republicans do not. The tenure of the big government, spend-happy wing of the GOP must end. Young, forceful, vibrant leaders in the conservative movement must be supported and given exposure. Jindal. Palin. Ryan. Cantor. Sanford. DeMint. Huckabee. Romney. Bachman. Pence. When the dust settles in the weeks and months following Tuesday's election, we're going to see signs of one of two things from our party -- either we'll see the down-in-the-mouth, lazy fighter who refuses to adhere to the basic principles of hard work and sacrifice, or a lean, mean, fighting machine ready to take down the reigning champion in 2012. If it's the former, we're doomed; if it's the latter, we'll surely win.

So, who is our Apollo Creed? Certainly, the people behind Ron Paul's unlikely success know a thing or two about getting the word out. Certainly, the tech-savvy crowd do not all vote democrat. Let's take a free-market approach to redefining the Republican Party in the conservative mold. Let's reward those with new, viable ideas about public relations and voter outreach with positions in the party. Let's put out an all-points-bulletin for young people who know the merits of conservatism as well as they know how to articulate them across various channels to a wide-ranging group of people. Let's foster grassroots programs and organizations in our higher education institutions, and reward them with support from party leaders.

News of the death of conservatism has indeed been widely misreported. The beating we took on Tuesday will serve to make us--and America as a whole--stronger if and when we choose to learn from it, if and when we choose to once again recommit ourselves to doing the right thing and taking the right approach not because it is easy but because it is hard.

A leaner, meaner, more efficient Republican Party, strengthened by a core rooted in conservative values, will not lose in four years. Rocky Balboa did it. He surprised everyone with how much sleeker he was, with how much more efficient he was, with how much faster he was, with his mastery of the ring. Apollo Creed got him there with a simple, principled approach to training -- hard work, balance, core strength, footwork, blood, sweat and tears.

When the final bell had rung on the rematch, it was Clubber Lang who lay in a heap, beaten, broken, bloodied, and still surprised by the quickness and effectiveness of the older, wiser Balboa. The people were stunned. The commentators were stunned. When it was all over, Rocky reclaimed the belt he had lost due to apathy, and was a better fighter for it.

And, not to mention, do you remember what he did next?

He knocked out a Russian.

Jeff, interesting article and I do agree that the Republican Party needs to not only re-invent itself, it has to be revamped head to toe. Gone are the days of old, and if we want to ever – yes, I said ever – regain the Oval Office our party needs to be in tune with the masses, which is what John McCain was not. --- Listen, McCain is an all American hero that America should be proud of for years to come. His story needs to go into the history books, because few men have done for this country what McCain has done…having said that, if anyone in the Republican Party thought that he could really beat Obama, they need to have their head examined! McCain was completely out of touch with the reality as seen through the eyes of the masses…and guess what; conservatives are no longer that “Silent Majority” we can count on. Our country has a broken moral compass, so don’t expect to appeal to today’s youth with patriotism…they don’t have a clue what that means!!!

The new Republican Part has to be young, energetic, in tune with today’s day-to-day problems and willing to reach out to groups like our youth, Hispanics, African Americans, women, etc…however, far beyond any strategic approach is the need to communicate amongst each other and the absolute need to stop the in-fighting. We need to stick together – no matter what. Or it will be 4 years and another 4 years, and another 4 years and so the story goes.

We need to organize and we need committees, each assigned to tackle a specific task. Oh, one thing that is going to be very important will be for us to keep our own web site with a list of the things the Dems screw up, so that they can’t twist the truth at campaign time.

In short, we need new talent and we need to organize effectively. – Otherwise, you can tell your Republican friends to get used to being a minority in government from here on out.

uh...he cheated. that is why he won.

Anonymous,  November 8, 2008 1:41 AM

Jeff, one thing that obviously worked extremely well for the Obama campaign was the media. The media chose a winner (and a loser) even before the primaries were over – not to mention the general election. Any grass-roots movement that is organized between now and 2010 or 2012 will not have the luxury of having the coverage that CBS, ABC and MSNBC have. We also cannot rely on Fox News – ask yourself how many stories you heard about BO birth certificate…zero. They won’t touch something like that and it’s up to the bloggosphere to cover things like that and provide centralized information.

However, we need to consolidate…we can’t have 200 web sites all stating the same thing in different ways. We need a couple of sites that all inter-link between each other – YES egos have to be tossed out the window…!!! And that communicate a cohesive message between themselves. Obama was very good about conveying a simple message “Change” – they made it easy enough for the dumbest of the dumb to be able to attach their own meaning to that word. They never explained it, which was brilliant, and they kept chanting it, over and over again…

To do all this requires a collective level of coordination and planning. We need to communicate with the main party and tell them what we need them to do - not ask them how we can help, we need to come in with an idea and carry it through.

One last thing I’ll mention is briefness…we all live very busy lives and as the months go by, people will go back to their daily routines and they’ll forget about Washington…it always happens. We need a site that delivers a brief and concise message and/or information. Lengthy articles are great for moral boosting, but we need to get past the commiseration session and begin to work on what to do next.

You'll disagree with this article, but I think it's important:

http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/c2008/cbarchive_20081107.html

If the GOP wants any hope to recover it had better put Ron Paul in the spot Roy Blunt just vacated (minority whip). Or better yet, Ron Paul for minority leader.

"We must hang together, gentlemen...else, we shall most assuredly hang separately." - Benjamin Franklin

Having been part of the Ron Paul campaign in Nevada, it was a thrilling ride and to win in the Republican caucus shows that it can be done. We have the talent within the party to pull off stunning victories. The message must be united and consistent. I've added America's Right and Right Choice to my blog lists as well. Egos be damned indeed and let the down in the mouth stay where they want, Conservative values have never forsaken this country and its a damn shame if we were to abandon them. I for one will not and plan on taking that message to the people of Nevada over the next two years and then to DC from there.

Surprised that you haven't mentioned the new Democrat President elect's first policy announcement - that he is going to cut taxes.

Alll the swish software in the world is not going to help Republicans - they should go and do something else!

I am one of the old fossels, and I think you are right as rain.
We do need young people like Bobby J and Palin. We need the young that know the technology and how to get a cohesive single message out.More than that we need to get the Liberals out of Education . Sinse I have been blogging (2 months) I have learned the education of this country has been appaling. the under 35 group seem not to know a thing about civics, history. Most of them could not tell you what Obama was selling, not even his platform. Go getum guys, you know what you are tsalking about I applaude you.

Dear God, please, please say it isn't so. What has Bush done to us?

http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/symon/081107

"Therefore, from late January onwards next year, things might well begin floating to the surface, AND IF I'M RIGHT, PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA WILL REMAIN IN OFFICE EVEN IF HE FAILS TO FULFILL THE CONSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENTS, ie. He was not born in the United States of America. BECAUSE IF THE CONSTITUTION IS UNDER SUSPENSION, President G W Bush can therefore take the credit for making Barack Obama America's first non-native born President.

Okay, there is yet another possibility, and for me it's worse than any feasible suspension of the US Constitution. It's a scenario where President Barack Obama is forced by the Supreme Court to provide a copy of the original certificate, and on the certificate is the name of another country other than the US of A. The Constitution is still in force, so Barack Obama steps down, and Joe Biden steps down also to make Hillary Clinton the new President. Now that's some thought.

Colin Powell's little fence-jumping exercise shortly before the election holds, I'm sure, some hidden secrets, things that Colin Powell was not pleased about and wished resolved. Bruce Springsteen said, "We want our America back," and I reckon most of the Western world supported Barack Obama because they also wanted their liberty back. 80-year old English, Church of England, ladies do not like having their fingerprints taken and their iris's scanned, to determine if they're terrorists or not.

I've personally held a strong belief over the past few years, that America has become controlled and Americans liberties removed through one man's lack of faith in God, and his subsequent fear and cowardice of things seen and unseen. If God be for us, who can be against us? has apparently fallen on deaf ears there, and he therefore might well go down in history as not just the most hated American President ever, but also the ultimate in Civil Liberty stealers, and that's something to live with once he departs the great White House on the Hill."

vrajavala November 8, 2008 6:07 AM

I waiting for the Secret Service and the CIA to tell Obama that he can't use his cell phone any more. Seems like that would be a real leak for security and don't they have to keep a register of all his calls and emails/ Like in the richard Nixon days?

Jeff,

I agree with you that “News of the death of conservatism has indeed been widely misreported”, but also the landslide of Obama win was misreported as well.

Here are some interesting numbers from California Government Official website that I’m putting as summary for you (data for 2008).
I just added few simple calculations that based on these numbers.
‘As of February’ – 2008 Primary Election
‘As of November’ – 2008 General Election

---------------------- Number of Eligible to register Number of Registered Number of Total
------------------------------------ to Vote --------------------------------- to Vote --------------------------- Votes received
As of February ------------ 22,948,059 --------------------------- 15,712,753 ------------------------ 9,068,415 -----
As of November -------------------------------------------------------- 17,304,091 ----------------------- 10,549,560

As of February:
-------------------- Democratic ---------------------------- Republican -------------------------------------- Other Parties

B.Obama ------------ 2,186,662 --------- J. McCain ---------- 1,238,988
H. Clinton ----------- 2,608,184 --------- M. Romney -------- 1,013,471
Other Candidates --- 217,278 --------- Other Candidates -- 824,881
------------------------- ------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------
--------- Total Votes: 5,012,124 ………………………….. 3,077,340 ………………………… 978,952

As of November: --- Obama --- --- McCain --- --- Others ---
Total Votes …………. 6,336,950 …. 3,876,353 …. 192,207

% of Received
Votes ……………….. 60.9% …………. 37.3% ………1.8%

% of Registered
Voters ……………….. 36.6% …………. 22.4% ………1.1%

% of Eligible to

What it says is:
1. Only 10,549,560 votes have been recorded in November election:
………….. 6,754,531 (6.7 million) people who are registered but did NOT vote
………….. 5,643,968 (5.6 million) people who could potentially vote but they did NOT register and did NOT vote
2. We do not know what in the minds of 12.3 million people (since they did not participate in the election) but when 54% of Californian citizens do not want to go and vote shows that they do not care or simply they lost any hope in our government. This is very disturbing sign, isn’t?
3. According to the numbers above, only 27.6% of California citizens (who are eligible to vote and some of the registered) expressed their support for Obama in California.
4. Even from only registered voters, 36.6% are voted for Obama.

The fact is that the numbers do not lie they just show the reality. I do not see any overwhelming number.

I don’t know what numbers in all other states, but sure over 50% of California population needs help to wake up and be active.

When I see that ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ map with states, I think that every state missing ‘White’ color portion that represents population of these who are in my view ‘Blank’ – they are ‘Deadly Undecided”.

And as you said “if and when we choose to learn from it, if and when we choose to once again recommit ourselves to doing the right thing and taking the right approach not because it is easy but because it is hard.” then “A leaner, meaner, more efficient Republican Party, strengthened by a core rooted in conservative values, will not lose in four years.”

Here is the list of documents for your reference if you would like to look at the numbers:
1. From the results of November 2008 Primary Election - Voter Participation Statistics By County (the summary at the bottom of that report):

2. California General Election November 4, 2008 (from Secretary of State):

nana3,  November 8, 2008 8:56 AM

Jeff,

Another great article and some of the other comments on here are right on....I am over being disillusioned and distressed, it's time to go to work! At first, I was stunned that Obama succeeded the way he did considering the negatives in his background and his lack of experience. I have realized that the 'rock star' image won out over substance for many people, young and old. This election said to our young people that it doesn't matter what your character is, or whether your campaign is honest or whether the media is biased...it just doesn't matter. Obama's campaign succeeded in convincing people that if you just look straight ahead and don't acknowledge any accusations against you, they will fall on deaf ears and be swept under the rug. I am encouraged that 70% of blacks voted for marriage being between one man and one woman...there are many black Christians who share some of the same beliefs as our party holds but when confronted by this opportunity to vote for a black candidate, they could not turn away. I think we need to focus on bringing more of those people who were Obama supporters to our party after the 'honeymoon' with him is over. We need to do all the things you said and we need to start grooming new leaders who will be effective in presenting our message. Many young voters viewed this as an opportunity to distance themselves from parental values and beliefs so we have to be more diligent and educate them better about conservative issues. We need media outlets like this to give us more accurate information and we need to let the MSM how disgraceful they were during this election...don't listen to them, don't buy products from sponsors and write letters expressing your outrage. Thanks, Jeff, for your insight and committment.

Jeff,
Great article!!! I hope you keep up the good work! I wanted to know if you have seen this website? It mirrors a lot of the ideas out there on people's minds just as your article does. We need to start from the ground up and rebuild the GOP via the internet. I know Obama won this election through "Slight of Hand". Lets see now, Acorn, no filters on his donation credit card system, 90% of the press in his pocket, 99% of hollywood backing him, and most important of all, masterful campaign people. I am sure he didn't come up with all those ideas on his own. A very wise boss told me once, "I don't have to be smart. I just have to surround myself with smart people and they'll make me look smart". And you know, he was one of the smartest people I ever met. Anyway, thanks for all your hard work.

Hey, the other anon beat me to the thought--Obama cheated. Clubber Lang won because he was better at the time, and at least deserved respect. I appreciate your optimistic spirit, but we must also NOT overlook and allow the crimes that pushed Obama into his position to stand. There is optimism and then there is obliviousness.

Lizzi November 8, 2008 8:59 AM

This was the perfect start to my morning. I've been trying to remind myself that some good will somehow come out of this election, and your Rocky analogies are dead on. Oh, and the Russian line was the best! First time I've laughed at any post since the election. Thanks!

Jeff,

You are a very talented writer with just enough creativity to sway the ideals of the most rigid of minds. Excellent article! Keep it up!

Dan N

By the way, I know this is a loaded question but, who is footing the bill for www.change.gov?

Gary November 8, 2008 9:26 AM

good post!

We also have to do something about a few dominating issues that trump all other issues and make one vote for the other side. In particularly, I can think of a few:

1. Women's choice - the right abort an un-born baby has been very successfully marketed into a women's right to choose and has been drilled into women's head that this will be taken away by conservatives. Most of the single women at work are very conservative, but this issue trumps everything in their lives and the democrats get 70% of the single women vote.

2. Same for Gay rights
3. Same with environmentalism
4. Same with
5. Same with

Democrat voters are made up many different single issue groups that vote for that issue regardless of all the other crap that the candidate is for.

Gary November 8, 2008 9:32 AM

We also need to see their Black candidate and raise them a Women president candidate and a Hispanic VP candidate.

Anonymous,  November 8, 2008 9:41 AM

I thought this article was great! I'm not usually into sports analogies, but even I've seen all the Rocky movies! I just hope we can come together and do this. Who do we turn to? Who is going to start this revolution? We need someone to get this ball rolling, now! I hear so many people saying what we should do, what we need to do, but who is going to stand up and start doing it?

Thanks for this message. I've forwarded on to many people. Hopefully more will come to your site and maybe you can start being a central location? No pressure or anything, but you better keep up the good work! LOL

Anonymous,  November 8, 2008 10:17 AM

Sorry, but once again the conservatives seem to be reacting rather than acting proud of who they are and what they represent. The short comment above saying "they won because they cheated" was the part you left out about the fight...the opponent's gloves were loaded; they fought dirty. They were backed by thugs. So now we're supposed to copy them with "younger and leaner" as if we too got co-opted by their show?

Look, it doesn't matter if real heroes run nowadays. We have generations who have been raised to expect to not have to pay or to sacrifice for their dreams...just vote in the folks who promise them something for nothing. They would even kill the Piper when he comes a callin to be paid.

No, people must learn from their own mistakes and that includes facing them and suffering. You can only keep all those plates spinning for so long and then the "messiahs" too will crack and their followers will scream for being soooo misled.

Anonymous,  November 8, 2008 11:12 AM

body language tells more about a person then his words....

George Bush during his last address a twinkle in his eyes a smile of relief on his face that it is almost over for him..

Pres elect Obama after his security brief and meeting of his economy advisers . the fear in his voice and on his face of the unknown crisis he will face....the artifical high of running for president of the US to the real world of the leader of the US..

the backlass of promises he made too the masses and promises he can keep

security crisis with Russia missiles moving to Poland borders... Iran laying down conditions before they will talk .. alquida telling him to remove all Us troops out of the mideast ...and he hasnt taken the oath...

I have faith in America and its leaders and the American people and Freedom will prevail

Anonymous,  November 8, 2008 11:13 AM

We have a generation, if not two, that have been indoctrinated into the shallow thinking that led to electing a radical socialist, possible non-citizen, unAmerican man with ties to muslims and terrorists. These generations have no analytical skills, are the center of their world, have no core principles or stabilizers, and do not understand the gift of freedom. They vote for what's cool and they pass on that shallowness to their children.

Change has to go deeper than just changing the old and boring. It also has to change the young and ignorant.

goddessdivine November 8, 2008 11:14 AM

This is a fantastic analogy. As a fan of Rocky movies and a member of the Repub party (who thinks we need an overhaul), this resonates.

I hope what you suggest, as well as the suggestions in the first few comments, take off. If we can't make the 'change', we are doomed.

Hannity forum picking up on the Berg case.
This "may" take off.

Please don’t fool yourselves into thinking that Hannity or any part of the Fox Network will pick up on the Berg case or anything related to the Birth Certificate. -- NO one in the media (mainstream or not) wants to touch this – no one! Great knows about it, Hannity knows about it and O’Riely know about it…none of them believe it to be true or have any merit.

Our only hope is a lawsuit that “forces” the story into the mainstream media and even then, they’ll paint this to be a “tin-foil hat conspiracy”.

People, honestly…get ready for 8 to 16 years of slowly developing, unnoticed, Marxism!

Simple, we need to educate the young generatin of African Americans that is was the GOP who was founded by Lincoln and it has been the GOP that fought thier civil rights. The democrats, including Kennedy voted against it!
Go to the African American GOP website and print the article written by Frances Rice
"Why Martin Luther King was a Republican"
I have given that to some of my African American Friends and they read, cried and voted McCain!
This is a hug issue that we cannot ignore any longer

Federal gun ban coming to your home soon. Check the NRAILA.ORG site. Obama proposed 4 pieces of legislation within hours oh his acceptace speech. Civilian army + gun control=(you fill in the blank).

''he knocked out a russian''. That reminded me of just how ill informed Ive noticed that americans are today.
We all need to get up to date here on todays New Russia, and get our heads out of the old Stalinist mindset.
I know I got my eyes opened after the Georgia fiasco, and as Russia has come to the forefront again; THEY ARE NOT THE BAD GUYS.
Every american needs to do their own research and study up, instead of letting the Media lead our erroneous thinking about that country and its new government.
www.russiatoday.com is good for starters.

All right, Jeff...count me in...

I'm going back to school and finish that journalism degree I put off for personal reasons...with a minor in political science...and fight from within!

It's time to take action, combat the liberal media bias, and fight against a possible "liberal regime".

Thanks for your site, and your challenge to all of us! No more sulking. No more despair. No more "shock and awe" of defeat. No more sitting behind a computer screen seeking comfort in others.

It's time to join others, and get active. Get involved. Get a fighting spirit. Get the GOP back in 2012, and fight for our country again!
We suffered a heavy loss, and not without reason, but we can reverse this! It's not over! America is worth fighting for, and with activism and new thinking, we'll get it back.
I also take comfort in knowing that there are those around the world who also feel the same. It's not all in Obama's court, and many in Britain, Canada, France, Australia, etc., are also opposed to him and wonder how America could "fall for this". Don't believe the hype! This isn't something the liberal media will tell us. Don't pay attention to the media showering (bombarding us) with images of thousands around the world who seem to be "praising and rejoicing" over America's choice! Read newspapers, blogs, etc., from around the world and see that it isn't wholly in his favor!
One poster on here pointed out a blog called, "La Conservateur", and in it you will see the doubt and wonder at his election. "The Canadian Free Press", not too long ago, posted a video of Obama in Kenya with Odinga. In it you will see his support for the man who encouraged the riots and killings of Christians in Kenya. Many Canadians posted comments of absolute disbelief that Americans could possibly elect him!
This isn't over! Can we do this?
Take a page out of his playbook...
"YES WE CAN!"

First of all. They need our help here - go and then notify all you can to do the same:

The President is NOT OFFICIALLY elected according to the Constitution UNTIL the Electoral College meets to cast their votes, which is Dec 15, 2008.

Hey all...

Make special note of "icarcus in uk"....

Statement:
"All the swish software in the world won't help republicans now...they should go do something else".

Ha ha...yeah, didn't some of the Brits stick to that attitude way back when...you know...that little squirmish we call THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION....we were a pretty scrappy bunch back then, too....a small militia of colonists, and an army barely equipped by standards of the time....to go up against the vast advanced Brits...brightly uniformed in red (while the militias and army took'em out behind trees...) ha ha...
Yeah, keep talking like that ucarcus...incidentally that name is a little weird sounding...
You think we should "go do something else"....yeah, I bet your British ancestors probably hoped the same, but we know how that ended up...so why don't you go do something else, (and you can bet we have a few suggestions), and stay on your side of the pond where we put you a long time ago!

AMERICA WAS WORTH FIGHTING FOR THEN, AND IT'S STILL WORTH FIGHTING FOR NOW!

I read in one of the post on this blog that 99% of Hollywood voted for Obama – not sure if the percentage is accurate or not, but that’s not the point.

OK, that’s fine…now we have to reward Hollywood’s decision, which affected all of us. Make a firm decision NOT to go to the movies for the next 4 years. Pass that suggestion on to all your friends, so that Hollywood gets the clear message that they are actors and not political compasses. When box office and concert profits plummet, maybe Hollywood will get the bigger picture.

Also, begin to identify which companies supported Obama, like GE for instance. Stop buying their products…they cannot survive with 50% less profits if we ALL begin to boycott their goods and services.

If this was about punishing the 5% of “rich” in America, which we all know it wasn’t, because the tax increases will be across the board for everyone. – so if you bought into that 95% foolishness, I’d suggest you not make plans with your tax credit just yet. – Regardless, we (the “Haves”) need to take our money and spend it the way we want and not on them.

Let’s see how long they can keep the economy afloat without our money to float the “middle class”.

There is a misconception that there was a massive "new" and "young" voter turnout. There wasn't. CNN had to retract statements supporting that. Obama won the independent vote.

roger t,  November 8, 2008 2:43 PM

I agree that the campaigning mechanism needs a serious overhaul. (1)The GOP is competing against Google-city with rice paper and an abacus. (2)The computer world is run by the under 30 crowd, the international political world is still represented by Putin and Clinton. Most companies have seen the disaster of giving power to geeks without industry knowledge. There's a long tradition of healthy tension (aka cooperation) between the experienced and the bold--the balance changes, but it's always there. (3)There's all this talk about what Obama did. Unfortunatly both Obama and Bush are front men, salesmen, for others. They look good, seem like good guys, but don't have the wherewithal to pull off a campaign or a presidency. They are no more relevent to the actual product than the atheletes and stars who get paid millions to advertise a product, so it's not Obama we're dealing with here. I'll let others more qualified determine who and what we are dealing with. (4) The last time I thought the GOP had something tangible for the American people was the Contract with America. Before that, Reagan and Thatcher were helping avoid the "Road to Serfdom" (Hayek), and if the GOP doesn't settle on such a philosophy, there's nothing much to offer. (5)I always thought conservatives wanted government to stay out of people's personal lives. I would think the GOP would get out of the abortion game, control the borders, regain some fiscal sanity. States rights disappeared with federal funding according to Goldwater, and I agree. Education is deplorable, healthcare is a necessary safety net, and infrastructure is deteriorating, though it's still our greatest strength, along with the military.

The Electors themselves are accepted as qualified only as directed by the Constitution. If they deny any part of this section's directive they then deny their own legitimacy to elect:

http://uselectionatlas.org/INFORMATION/LAW/article2sec1.php

Article II Section 1:

Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

.....

The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Hi Jeff,
Have been reading your blog since early October and it quickly became a favorite. I have not commented prior to this, but this post especially fires me up! I am a 37 year old college freshman. I decided to return to the halls of higher education this year because after spending the last 14 years raising my family, I wanted to make sure I have something to do when they all fly the coop.
I am the conservative that you are talking about. Not stuffy or uptight, but fun and in touch with the youth culture. My conservatism is based in a deep love and appreciation for my country, and a very real, living faith.
On my college campus, the conservatives were awesome. I came across some great young men and women who were very passionate about their vote. I will do something for the next election. I can't wait to fight for the America I love so much.
All the best,
Teri

The USA Today Ad is coming from an organization called We The People. Maybe we can check them out further to make sure they are legit. How would USA today hear of them? They are looking to put an ad in the paper. Papers don't care about who puts the ad in as long as they pay. I certainly don't want anybody to donate to a fraudulent organization, but the above post, just sounds like an Obama supporter scaring you. Lets check it out first.

They were obama supporters from the get go. He even wrote about one visit he had in his Audacity of Hope book. He used technology and talked about how we can use technology to recommit with it's self. McCain visited to but must have not made that big of impression on them. This revelation came to me this morning at 3:30....this morning. SImple the pitch he is using. Making everyone getting hocked online. He is sucking up to them......and the things he suggests about online medical records in 2007 google launched a couple months ago.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4yVlPqeZwo

I know that the Iphone (I have one) used application for obama 2008 and being able to be part of the plan. It is no wonder how he won. A program was developed to not need a campain center and they they could help obama right out of their home. Arggggggg......this makes me so mad. You have to give them credit. They made them self availble to the most available techno savey people....the college students. They made it easy for them to reach the nonvoters. I wonder how acorn was involved with this. hmnmmmm

I agree with 99% of your observation. The 1% requires a little clarification. This is not a problem of republicans not using technology on the central level: I did phonebanking for McCain in the convenience of my home and my computer. I could do it for any battleground state of my choice. The technology was there, the users of this technology did not do their homework though:
1) The phonebanks were pathetically out-of-date
2) They used only land phones, need to get cell phones as well
3) Last three days I did go to the Rapub. local office to do phonebanking there. It was even worse - the amount of wrong and disconnected numbers were overwhelming.
4) It was painfully obvious that republicans had 4 years to prepare their database and it was not there. Technology cannot be blamed for people's input - like they say: "garbage in - garbage out"
5) Local office workers average age was probably over 50 - they worked hard, but they have
not even realized that they had to do the ground work over all these years and now it was too late.

Corrective action: desperate need for updating data bases - land and phone lines, SMS - starting today

This is true - we do need to attract more young people, but so far, I don't see the message that can do it. I remember in 1994 during the "Republican revolution", all my 20 something colleagues were staunch conservative republicans. Now the majority of my colleagues are more liberal.

This is true - the young Obama supporters were turned out in bigger number than usual, but not in such big number to make a difference. In my state of FL, the republicans gave the state to Obama: it was big enough % of them who did not vote for the president or voted for Obama to tip the scale.

Ted Park,  November 8, 2008 7:17 PM

I have crafted the following "letter to the editor" that some of you may wish to submit to your local paper, or to any of your favorite TV news channels or conservative talk shows. I continue to believe that our best hope is to get the media to simply cover the issue. We don't necessarily need them to lead the charge to prove anything or take sides. We just need them to be aware that the process of vetting Obama is finally underway and they simply need to report on its progress.

=======

Letter to the Editor

Why don't you report on this? This is significant news. Your readership deserves to be informed on this, as it is underway, not just the end results. Barack Obama has not yet provided the documentation that is needed to demonstrate that he is constitutionally eligible to be President. No complete birth certificate, no citizenship records, no selective service registration, no passport. In spite of numerous requests by journalists and through court proceedings, he has steadfastly refused to provide this information. Kenya claims he was born in their country. Indonesia claims he is a citizen of theirs. Obama has said he was born in Hawaii. If he is not a citizen or not born in the United States, the chosen electors will not be able to vote him in as President. There is currently a case in the US Supreme Court challenging his eligibility. There is currently a case in the Hawaii supreme court to force release of any records held by that state's health department. There are other related cases in various state courts that have been filed by or joined by some of the electors. More concern and more court cases are expected soon from other electors as they are now becoming aware of the issue. Thus must be cleared up as soon as possible. The US Supreme Court was given the opportunity to stay the election pending the outcome of open investigations. They chose to not do that, but the investigations continue. This is a significant and critical story. Please report on this situation as it progresses.

Ted Park,  November 8, 2008 7:19 PM

Does anybody have any new news on voter fraud investigations? Either at the General or Primary level?

I’m a proud member of the “5% Club” and want to make sure that those that envy me because of my hard work for many, many years and those like me are not rewarded by our failure to do our homework.

I appreciate your effort and support for our party in providing such a list.

I know I got my eyes opened after the Georgia fiasco, and as Russia has come to the forefront again; THEY ARE NOT THE BAD GUYS."

Actually they ARE but I think they were demonized during that episode. Georgia was actually inching over to another area and intimidating those people and Russia was just inching in on Georgia to show what a power play REALLY looks like. Needless to say Georgia backed off the innocent area. But instead of mentioning what they did to start all that, they ran around screaming, holding their puddy-tat acting like somebody gave them a "bad touch".

I just know Putin is whacking it in the snow! He can't wait for this candy ass fraud to get in! He knows better than WE do!

I am hearing from a lot of areas that people who did not support Obama are organizing to coordinate resistance and planning for 2012..one is Pastor Manning at www.atlah.org and another is anystreet.org. It would be good if we could combine all these conservative organizations so that info could be shared and activity coordinated. Many seem to be ready to do something now as they see the dangers we face from Obama and the liberals in Congress. Any ideas about how we could develop a strategy?

Ayers Obama Axelrod plan Alinsky takeover of America

I saw this article last night from Old Alantic Lighthouse, it is about "LOOKING BEYOND THE ELECTION" the Million Supporters March in Washington in January 31. “change comes not from the top-down, but from the bottom-up. The Million Supporters March on Washington is an event to dramatize the urgency… “

We just see how crooked and evil Obama campaign was, it is only a start of the collective left New World Order and real oppression...only one opponent to free-expression, I need bloggers but I'm afraid that Obama could take that freedom.

The Million Man March and the Million Supporters March are modeled on the Nazis. They too staged events like Obama’s Denver Nuremberg Speech. Alinsky used every idea Hitler ever had on organizing. So do Ayers, Axelrod, Plouffe, and Obama.

It gave me cold shivers, I got up this morning and thinking that I have to move out of my metropolian house to find safe place in the country in mountains.
